Lord of the Flies: Human Nature

Human’s nature is to sin and corrupt our lives on a daily basis. Golding’s main point of Lord of the Flies is our human nature to is to be destructive with our own land, company, and resources. In this story a group of boys crash land on an abandoned island. Their goal is to get rescued before they kill each other. Golding’s theme is our human nature makes us destructive, insensitive, and violent. 

            Destruction is something that happens when humans try to prove themselves in harmful ways. An example of destruction is when Piggy dies and the conch breaks, when Jack is trying to prove he has the power. “The rock struck Piggy a glancing blow to the chin and knee; the conch exploded into a thousand white fragments and ceased to exist.”(Golding 181). Another action of destruction is when Jack sets the island on fire to get Ralph out of the thicket (197). Jack is trying to prove that he is going to kill Ralph. Jack does not realize that he is killing his resources and land. Also all the boys do this “dance” and tear Simon to pieces using their nails and teeth. This is another example of destruction within people. Destruction does not always happen on purpose, but it does happen mostly through the causes of human nature.
